I am a mathematician with Education background; and I have 13 years of experience working in an institution of higher learning. I have also held several administrative positions including Deputy Dean of Faculty, Head of Department; Coordinator of Postgraduate Programs; Board Member of TEEM Development Centre; Chairman of Marist Secondary School PTA; and President of Southern Africa Mathematical Sciences Association (SAMSA), a SADC orgnanization for promoting mathematics in the region. From 1st January 2015, I will be holding the position of dean of faculty of science. I am a team player, self-starter and innovative- qualities that have influenced change wherever I have held a post.
In mathematics, my fields of research interest are optimization and mathematical modeling. I have worked on developing efficient optimization methods for minimizing energy functional; and I am currently working on transport optimization and logistics in value chain analysis. I am also working on optimization of transport networks in cities. In Education, I am more interested in strengthening mathematics teaching and learning through problem solving. I am in a team of 5, on a collaborative project “Improving Quality and Capacity of Mathematics Teacher Education in Malawi” between the University of Malawi and University of Stavanger in Norway, funded by the Norwegian Government. I have also worked with a number of organisations – NGO’s, private, as well as public institutions through provision of short courses including ICT courses, consultancy services and public service. I am also an active member in my community, where, for example, I have served as Treasurer of the Gideons International, Church Elder and Convenor at a local church.
